🚦Vagus Nerve is like the GT road of the nervous system . The vagus nerve (cranial nerve [CN] X) is the longest cranial nerve in the body.

🤔 The vagus nerve is responsible for the regulation of internal organ functions, such as digestion, heart rate, immune system and respiratory rate, as well as vasomotor (blood vessel) activity, and certain reflex actions, such as coughing, sneezing, swallowing, and vomiting.

😟 So a Vagus nerve dysfunction can influence all of it and cause any or all of the aforesaid symptoms.

🔥Managing the inflammatory system is one of the most important functions of the vagus .
the major inflammatory control system in the body.

🤯 A damaged or under-active vagus nerve (poor vagal tone) may often result in low stomach acid levels and low enzyme production. It will lead to a cascade of gut and other issues too (Look up my old posts on this).

🧠 Additionally, The enteric nervous system is the largest division of the autonomic nervous system and it is housed entirely within the walls of the G.I. tract. It can be impacted by the vagus nerve too.

🔄 ‘The parasympathetic is the regulator of the sympathetic’

💪Inflammation and stress are like brother and sister, one goes up the other goes up too. So your mental an/or physical stress is going to drive inflammation and vice versa. 

🧠 Remember you cannot heal if your body is in a stressed and/or inflamed state.
For instance : Cortisol likes to break down protein. Gut is mostly made of protein (collagen). Large particles like proteins can overload the Lymphatic system when they escape through Gut permeability.

💆‍♂️ Improving vagal tone and functioning would help the body tap into the healing state, i.e., the parasympathetic state.

🧘‍♀️ It can be improved by simple drills like humming, chanting, breath-work, and meditation. In many cases, it may require some specific drills which are part of our Health Optimisation Program (H.O.P.E)!

Have you ever heard the saying “If you do what you love, you’ll love what you do”? I often share this idea with my clients. 

🎬When people start a new fitness routine, they tend to make the mistake of filling their kitchen with “diet food” like kale, broccoli, bajra roti, oats and salads. 

These foods are great if you enjoy them, but too often, people buy them because they feel like they should as they are popularly labelled as “healthy”

✅However, there are plenty of foods that will work just as well for healthy eating plans, so it’s important to choose things you actually like. 

Eating healthy can be challenging, so why make it harder by forcing yourself to eat things you don’t enjoy? 

🏃‍♀️The same goes for exercise - if you love lifting weights, you probably won’t enjoy a running program.

Start with  an activity that suits and challenges you, and I promise it will be much more enjoyable.

🏁It’s not necessary to suffer for the sake of your health. Make it fun , enjoy the process, Play the long game.
